I’ve jotted down a few ethical principles that recruiters should follow. What do you think? What would you add or delete?
I don't believe many recruiting functions have any written ethical guidelines, but I’d love to see them if you do.
•Commit to Non-Discrimination: Ensure that there is no bias against age, gender, race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
•Focus on Skills & Abilities: Every candidate should be evaluated solely based on their qualifications, skills, and experience relevant to the job.
•Ensure Privacy and Confidentiality: Candidates' personal data must be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Recruiters should secure consent before sharing any candidate information and only use data for the intended purpose of recruitment.
•Promote Transparency: Job roles and expectations should be presented honestly, without overselling or omitting critical information about the position.
•Respect Candidate Autonomy: Candidates should be free to make informed decisions about job offers without pressure or coercion.
•Uphold Professionalism: Recruiters should conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism throughout the recruitment process.
•Continuous Improvement: Commit to ongoing learning and development in recruitment practices, staying abreast of legal requirements, best practices, and emerging ethical concerns within the industry.
•Accountability: Recruiters should hold themselves accountable for their decisions and the outcomes of their recruitment processes
Agregaría Empatía: Deben se conscientes de la expectativa abierta en el candidato y en ese sentido mantenerlo informado de los tiempos y del avance del proceso hasta su finalización
Absolutely agree. Recruiters are many a times not transparent about their expectations and over glorify the job. After joining a lot of candidates resign due to this disparity. Also a positive shift from only considering degrees as qualification to considering skill set as a major factor is something that recruiters need to adapt as well.

Briefly...
* Accountability is crucial. I would also emphasize the front side of it, setting clear expectations with all parties.
* Represent your customer/business in the most positive, complete way possible to candidates.
*Give great counsel. Understand not just needs/requirements but the drivers of candidates, hiring managers, and their teams/organizations.
Some of these (mine at least) seem to be givens - but it is always good to over communicate and aim for clarity!
