That is correct that AI is changing the recruiter’s job—routine screening is already becoming less of a focus. But with legal requirements, slower adoption, and the importance of human judgment for culture fit and negotiation, the role isn’t disappearing, just evolving. Great recruiters will adapt by upskilling into areas like talent advisor, internal mobility, and AI oversight rather than being replaced entirely.
Great thought exercise! I believe AI should not be looked at solely as a cost saving measure but rather and opportunity to actually humanize and better the recruitment process. I plan on generating a article soon that articulates this. Great read!
Can't agree more! AI is out there to redefine everything we do in our lives. It is the next largest disruptor after the Industrial Revolution. Unfortunately, some of us are playing along with AI, some of us develop AI applications and solutions, many others are consuming........at the same time, some of us will be left behind. Make the best use of it in HR and Recruitment
Recruiters aren’t indispensable often times they’re lazy and incompetent who intentionally discriminate in employment hiring.
The only reason AI hasn’t replaced them yet is because AI discriminates too as an underreported lawsuit is making its way through the courts.
Have no problem with Recruiters and HR being made obsolete cause they blatantly discriminate in employment hiring. Maybe when HR has to start looking for jobs they’ll start getting a taste of what they have been doing to others.

I work in comms and will be asking myself a similar question, “What’s left for communicators to do?”
Thanks for this thoughtful article - especially the ideas at the end.

An excellent article.
Do you have any timeframe estimates on how soon this (the large-scale elimination of recruiting jobs) will occur?
Do you have any thoughts about how/how soon AI will minimize the need for hiring managers?
Hard to say. But I can say that it will be faster than we think, but slower than I wish. Perhaps mainly accomplished within 5 years.
Thank you.

Kevin - I am curious. Technical expertise is an objective measure while creative problem solving is subjective.
What kind of data is used today to identify external candidates who have a track record of being a creative problem solver?
